Now in its 7th year, the Race for Research Melbourne Cup luncheon is one of the most successful volunteer-led fundraising events supporting JDRF and type 1 diabetes (T1D) in Western Australia. Over the last five years, the event has raised $150,000 for JDRF thanks to both the local WA businesses that attended and donated auction items and the delectable food and beverage available to guests, as well as the guests who purchased tickets and generously bid for the many great auction items up for grabs. Because of this generosity, the majority of the funds collected at the event go directly to JDRF.
The 2018 event was held once again at Ambrose Estate in Wembley Downs, a gorgeous venue with 300 acres of parkland and the Perth skyline as a backdrop.
Seven Australians are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) every day. That’s seven families whose lives will never again be the same because of this life-long autoimmune disease. There is no way to prevent T1D, and currently no cure.
